The Idelsohn Society for Musical Preservation
The Idelsohn Society is a record label engaged in Jewish musical archeology. Run by a small, dedicated team from the music industry and academia, they passionately believe our history is best told by the music we have loved and nearly lost. In order to incite a new conversation about the present, we must begin by listening anew to the past.
The Idelsohn Society has unearthed Jewish music that veers from funny to funky to simply beautiful. A steady stream of lost classics have been re-released with carefully curated compilations like Mazeltov, Mis Amigos, Jewface, and Black Sabbath: The Secret Musical History of Black-Jewish Relations. These deeply researched, beautifully designed collections highlight the breadth and influence of Jewish music in the 20th century, preserving it with the care it deserves. Our mission: to look at Jewish history and the Jewish experience through recorded sound.
